2022 was the 30th anniversary of the death of Vicki Torr (1949 - 1992). It was also the United Nations International Year of Glass. 

This prize competition - conducted in 2022 only - honored the spirit of Vicki’s legacy and celebrated the ongoing vitality of the contemporary art glass movement in Australia. 

This was a contemporary glass art competition. It acknowledged the innovation, excellence and creativity of glass artists within Australia and showcase work that displays creative, conceptual and technical risk-taking as well work rooted in established and traditional practices.

• It was a non-acquisitive prize of A$10,000.

• A ‘people’s choice’ award of A$1,000 was awarded on the basis of votes cast by those visiting the finalists’ exhibition.

The competition was open to artists at any stage of their career, who are an Australian citizen or permanent resident and presently working in Australia.

Finalists were chosen by a pre-selection panel of individuals well-qualified to bring diverse and expert consideration to assess the competition entries, select finalists and a prize-winner. 

The pre-selection panel considered all twenty-seven competition entries, giving critical attention to the submitted works with particular regard to;

• craftsmanship and skill,

• concept and aesthetic, and

• alignment of artist statement and work.

Eight finalists were chosen.
