About the Conference
The Ausglass Conferences bring together artists, collectors, suppliers and hobbyists who are interested in glass. The program will include opportunities to network, talks on glass matters, demonstrations, and a variety of glass exhibition opportunities. If you are interested in glass, whether it be hot glass, flame-worked glass, kiln-worked glass or cold glass working, this conference is for you.
The Conference runs over a compact three days (Friday 16 January to Sunday 18 January 2009) with the 30th Anniversary Exhibition opening on the Thursday evening, leaving the opportunity to fly in to Tasmania on Thursday and out on Monday, or to enjoy a Tasmanian holiday at one side or the other (or both) of the Conference.
Oh! Did we yet mention the Glass Auction, or the associated Workshops either side of the Conference? The following Ausglass Conference will be in 2011 so you've got a wait if you miss Hobart.
The theme of the 2009 Conference is Glass Roots, taking in aspects of Ausglass' 30th Anniversary, the birth of studio glass in Australia, and getting down to basics. Naturally there are subthemes of 'The Natural State' and 'Explore the Possibilities' (state mottos) in the relationship between glass and nature.
Please enjoy our differing banner headings and caricatures, along the lines of the Conference Logo (alongside), all of which were designed by Tasmanian artist Tony Flowers, whose donation of time and art we gratefully acknowledge. There should be something for everybody in Glass Roots and we think he's captured that!
