Member Profile profile for Ede Horton
As an artist my intent is an innate desire to portray the complexities of the human condition within the fragile medium of glass, this essence is a paring down of the form to discover and portray its purest structure and detail, the character within.
Ede Horton received a Masters of Philosophy from the National Institute of the Arts, Australian National University in 2003. Ede is a past President of Ausglass and former juror for Craft Victoria. After training initially in stained glass, she turned to casting in the mid 1990s. Since 1981, Horton has operated from her home studio in Melbourne, exhibiting regularly in Australia and overseas. Her sculptures focus on emotional vulnerability and personal / cultural identity. Ede thinks of herself as a storyteller. In her work she looks for ways from an historical perspective to talk about how, through the generations, we deal not only with change but how we recognise and retain the richness of our memories and rituals that thread consistently through our lives and define who are.
