Glass beadmaking is one of the oldest human arts dating back 3,000 years so it is no wonder that even today we are mesmerised by a piece of wearable art that can make us feel uniquely special. Vivid color, eclectic pairings and big, big beads are foremost on my mind when I enter my studio each day. With a basic hothead as my heat source I love the challenge of creating a large, tactile slab of glass that can be strung up into a piece of statement jewellery.
I am a self taught 'beadist' and began lampworking in 2005 whilst residing in Melbourne. The myriad of Melbourne Handmade markets provided an outlet for my work and in 2008 won the Beads Etc. Magazine Designer of the Year Award. In September 2008 held a 2 week solo exhibition titled 'A Grain of Sand' at The Manly Gallery, Brisbane. In 2009 relocated to Brisbane and put my lampworking on hold to open a retail Clothing Boutique which I grew over a 7 year period. I have now returned to Lampworking full time with a purpose built studio in Wynnum, Brisbane. I am excited to come back to my 'happy place' with fresh eyes, new ideas and an enthusiasm to promote, educate and grow this beautiful craft.
